Chip Kelly is in San Francisco now, and while the novelty of some of his offensive ideas has worn off (Philadelphia’s offense declined every year), he should still pump considerable life into that running game. With Kelly there, it makes me a lot more interested in selecting Carlos Hyde.
Under Kelly, LeSean McCoy ran for over 1,300 yards in both of his seasons. They went with more of a one-two punch last year, with DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews, and while that wasn’t an overwhelming success, those guys combined for almost 1,300 yards and 12 TDs. That’s just on the ground (no receiving production).
Setting aside quarterbacks (that is, Cam Newton and Russell Wilson), the Eagles over the last two years have posted the 2nd-best rushing numbers over the last two years. That’s a big increase over the 49ers, who have been down in the bottom 10.
Here be the numbers (for running backs only) with rushing attempts, rushing yards, per-carry average and rushing touchdowns in the last 32 games for each team. The “Points” are the fantasy conversion, using 6 points for touchdowns and 1 point for every 10 yards.
