My dynasty league held its annual rookie draft over the weekend. It's a fun chance to replenish fairly static rosters (we keep everyone each year) with incoming rookies. Unfortunately, the 2016 NFL Draft wasn't loaded with desirable skill position prospects, but you take what you can get.

It's a three-round draft which also enables you to draft unrostered veterans, so a couple of those guys slipped in there. Here's how it went; my picks are in bold.

1.01 Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Dall.
1.02 Laquon Treadwell, WR, Minn.
1.03 Josh Docston, WR, Wash.
1.04 Corey Coleman, WR, Clev.
1.05 Derrick Henry, RB, Tenn.
1.06 Sterling Shepard, WR, NYG

No great surprises here. Top 4 will be the same in every draft, with the three wideouts alternating order sometimes. Worth nothing that the guy who took Henry at 1.05 has DeMarco Murray, which probably factored into that pick. I was picking at 1.08 and 1.09 (thanks to a predraft trade) and hoped Shepard would reach me though I knew it was unlikely.

1.07 Michael Thomas, WR, N.O.
1.08 Kenneth Dixon, RB, Balt.
1.09 Paul Perkins, RB, NYG
1.10 Hunter Henry, TE, S.D.
1.11 Austin Hooper, TE, Atl.
1.12 Tyler Boyd, WR, Cin.

So, I was hoping to draft Thomas, but he went one pick before me. I took Dixon, who I think is the 2nd- or 3rd-best running back in this class with three-down potential (ultimately) in Baltimore. I then tried to trade out of pick 1.09, without success. So I took Perkins, who has a nice skill set and similarly walks into a favorable situation with the Giants. Not as a rookie, perhaps, but Rashad Jennings (who's 31) and third-down back Shane Vereen are the only noteworthy backs in New York. I could see Perkins starting in 2017 if not sooner. By the way, TE receptions are worth 1.5 in this league. I would have taken Hooper first, who is behind only Jacob Tamme (old for a TE) in Atlanta. Henry might spend two years as Ladarius Green in San Diego behind seemingly ageless Antonio Gates, and I'm not that patient.

2.01 Malcolm Mitchell, WR, N.E.
2.02 Will Fuller, WR, Hou.
2.03 Devonate Booker, RB, Den.
2.04 C.J. Prosise, RB, Sea.
2.05 Tyler Higbee, TE, L.A.
2.06 Mike Thomas, WR, L.A.
2.07 Braxton Miller, WR, Hou.
2.08 Leonte Carroo, WR, Mia.
2.09 Keith Marshall, RB, Wash.
2.10 Daniel Braverman, WR, Chi.
2.11 Jordan Howard, RB, Chi.
2.12 Jared Goff, QB, L.A.

Not a pretty picture. Mitchell could emerge in New England. Fuller is a first-round pick and maybe he'll live up to it if he can eliminate the drops. Booker and Prosise have only one noteworthy back ahead of them in Denver and Seattle, respectively. Carroo will have a hard time getting past Parker or Landry in Miami, but guys get hurt or disappoint. Marshall, to me, is a savvy pick, with Matt Jones very unproven. Howard, too. Goff, the draft's top pick, falls to 2.12 because everyone has a quarterback or two and just emerging as a solid starter for the Rams, assuming he does, doesn't necessarily make him a fantasy starter.

3.01 Tim Hightower, RB, N.O.
3.02 Pharoh Cooper, WR, L.A.
3.03 Carson Wentz, QB, Phil.
3.04 Mason Crosby, PK, G.B.
3.05 Nick Vannett, TE, Sea.
3.06 Kenyan Drake, RB, Mia.
3.07 Paxton Lynch, QB, Den.
3.08 DeAndre Washington, RB, Oak.
3.09 Jordan Payton, WR, Clev.

3.10 Rashard Higgins, WR, Clev.
3.11 Tajae Sharpe, WR, Tenn.
3.12 Jonathan Williams, RB, Buff.

I actually picked three of these players so I'll try to come up with something good to say about them. Cooper has some Randall Cobb/Percy Harvin to his game and maybe he emerges in the apocalyptic wasteland the Rams refer to as their receiving corps. I hoped to take Lynch at 3.08; when he was gone I opted for Oakland's likely No. 2 and perhaps third-down back right away. I had no interest in drafting anyone at 3.09 and tried to trade the pick for a future third. When I couldn't, I settled for one of Cleveland's new wideouts in hopes he emerges in the preseason. Most likely he'll be back on our league's waiver wire in a month or two, if not sooner.

That was the draft. Let me know who the worst reaches and best picks were, and if you think any rookies were overlooked who I should snap up when our waiver wire opens in a couple of weeks.
