The Fanex Analysis Draft wrapped up this morning, with 240 players selected by 12 teams. This is a best-ball league with locked rosters, and there are some notable players who didn’t even get selected.

In my opinion, the following are the best players who weren’t even chosen:

QUARTERBACKS:
Call me crazy, but I like Blaine Gabbert. He’s a much better quarterback now than he ever was in Jacksonville. He’s been working on his game. He averaged 254 passing yards per game in the second half of last year. Now he’s going to be running that up-tempo Chip Kelly offense, where there are simply a lot more plays. All three of Kelly’s offenses in Philadelphia averaged at least 268 passing yards per game. Gabbert also has some mobility. In this kind of format, the correct course is to select two competent quarterbacks. You only get 20 players, so I didn’t want to use another 5 percent of my roster on another player at this position. But I think Gabbert has an excellent chance of sneaking into the top 20 at his position.

RUNNING BACKS:
I used my last pick on Tre Mason. I’m not a big Mason fan, but I he fits my roster better than some of the other backs who are left. That is, I’ve got Todd Gurley. If Gurley gets hurt, I’ll want Mason to plug into that role. No waiver moves are allowed in this league, so part of the battle is keeping a starting lineup on the field for all 17 weeks. I selected Gurley, Mark Ingram and Ryan Mathews, so I used my other three running back selections on the players I believe will back those guys up. Long story short, there are some decent flyer-type backs who weren’t even chosen. The Giants selected Paul Perkins in the fifth round, and I believe he’ll wind up being the backup behind Rashad Jennings. Spencer Ware showed some potential in KC last year and could be a goal-line guy. No takers on either of the Dallas backups: Alfred Morris and Darren McFadden. And nobody selected Alex Collins, whom I think will be the backup tailback in Seattle.

WIDE RECEIVERS:
The group did a pretty good job of picking over this position, I thought. There’s nobody left that I even considered in the 20th round. In order: Stevie Johnson, Cole Beasley, Jermaine Kearse, Kenny Britt, Victor Cruz and Nelson Agholor.

TIGHT ENDS:
Kyle Rudolph almost went unselected; he lasted until the next-to-last pick. So th is position has been pretty well picked over. Best available, I think, are a half dozen youngsters, and I don’t have any of them in my top 22 overall in this PPR format: Austin Hooper, Jeff Heuerman, Crockett Gillmore, Hunter Henry, Richard Rogers and Jesse James.

KICKERS:
Three that I have ranked 15th to 18th weren’t chosen: Dustin Hopkins, Dan Carpenter and Nick Novak. Two teams in this league chose only one kicker, which makes no sense in this kind of format.

DEFENSES:
Nothing slipped through at this position. Detroit and Tennessee were the best defenses that were not chosen, and I’ve got them at just 22nd and 23rd. In this best-ball format, the correct strategy is to select two defenses, but three of the other franchises selected just one. One team selected three at this position.

Anyway, that league is in the books. No roster moves, no starting lineups. You just automatically get your best lineup each week. PPR scoring. No head-to-head games – most overall points wins. Key now is to cross your fingers and hope your guys stay healthy. I’ll check back in early January to see if I won the thing.
