If you can manage to watch the right games, you think the NFL is pretty awesome. Take this week. If you watched Titans-Jaguars and Panthers-Cardinals, you saw a couple of lousy games. Packers-Falcons and Bucs-Raiders? The NFL is awesome! Not much defense, but you can't have everything.

Washington at Bengals: Both injured tight ends healthy for this game and both really productive (even Vernon Davis was with some two tight-end sets for Washington). The risk in saying "I'll see him get a game in healthy before using him." Eifert and Reed every week starts. Big game for Kirk Cousins and all of his receivers. Bengals not so good against the pass. And another tie, including a missed chipshot field goal near the end of overtime. Much talk about what happens to those who took the Bengals in a Survivor Pool. Answer in mine is, your team has to win, so you're out.

Patriots at Bills: More Tom Brady doing his thing up in Buffalo. Long touchdown to Chris Hogan against his former team, he was one of a few players doing that today. Gronkowski touchdown, as always. Ho hum. Nice game for Mike Gillislee, with the Bills ruling out McCoy. Touchdown chance for Charles Clay but he couldn't bring it in. James White dropped an easy one that also would have gone for a touchdown.

Cardinals at Panthers: More struggles for the Arizona offensive line/Carson Palmer, who got knocked around a lot. If you started him you got junk production at least, including a nice TD grab by John Brown (who most people probably benched). Should have probably been an even bigger day for Carolina's offense, but an unlikely pair of touchdowns for Jonathan Stewart, the defensive dominance, and settling for a couple of field goals, including one after a goal-line stand. Cam Newton not running quite as aggressively around the end zone post-concussion? Anyway, an unusual strong defensive performance for Carolina, or maybe that's just what we'll see out of Palmer a bunch going forward.

Jets at Browns: Naturally, Browns made a game of it, including taking an early two-score lead. But their defense is bad, and they can't really hold anyone in check for very long. If you had to start Isaiah Crowell, like I did, he did well for you. As did Quincy Enunwa, and both Jets running backs. Starting players against Cleveland generally works well.

Lions at Texans: A rare decent game for the Texans offense. Maybe Lamar Miller not 100 percent, but he scored and was still out there in the final period, with Alfred Blue also having a nice run or two. Nothing takes pressure off a struggling quarterback like that, although Brock Osweiler still didn't play well. Lions apparently made Dwayne Washington a healthy scratch, and scored a touchdown on a first and goal from the 2-yard line when they went empty backfield and passed it to Theo Riddick. That's just who they are.

Kansas City at Colts: Kansas City defense good enough that they can win with Nick Foles. Alex Smith left this game to be checked for a concussion, was apparently cleared, then suffered a bigger hit on a similar-looking play. Might be Nick Foles next week. Spencer Ware also knocked out of this game, so Charcandrick West might be the big pickup next week. Watched Jeremy Maclin drop a catchable ball in the end zone, cursed his name, then saw him catch a touchdown on the very next play. He's been so quiet this year I'm pretty sure I heard the announcer incorrectly refer to him as Johnny Maclin. Quiet game for T.Y. Hilton who suffered a hamstring injury during the game. Touchdown for Donte Moncrief, he's back.

Seahawks at Saints: What a finish. Seattle trailing by 5 against the league's worst defense needing to drive the field. Shockingly, they were stopped at the opposing 10-yard line; or they completed it in the end zone, but throw was too high for Jermaine Kearse to get either foot down. Must be rough on the nerves being a Saints fan, but they're winning some of these. ... Mark Ingram benched after an early fumble, leading to a lot of worthless Tim Hightower carries near the goal line. Annoying for those who started Ingram, annoying period.

Raiders at Buccaneers: Really nice touchdown grab for Russell Shepard and then one for Cameron Brate. Big game for Amari Cooper, who's awesome. Clutch touchdown drive by the Raiders to tie things up, with some really impressive throws by Derek Carr and catches by his various receivers. Well, and one last-second perfect throw that Cooper dropped. Exciting! ... Roberto Aguayo continues to struggle, which I realize has minimal fantasy impact. Although missing an extra point did help Jameis Winston and Mike Evans have a two-point conversion. And the only kicker drafted earlier than Augayo, Sebastian Janikowski, missed a field goal at the end of regulation, and another in overtime, wasting his offense's efforts. Although benefiting them from a fantasy sense, so there's that.

Chargers at Broncos: Decent game. No shame for the Chargers losing at Denver, it's just a shame for they blew a couple they could/should have won earlier in the season. Awesome catch of a tipped pass for a touchdown for Travis Benjamin. Philip Rivers threw 3 interceptions but at least one should have been caught. Whatever. Broncos have a great defense but don't seem to have enough offense. Decent fantasy day for Devontae Booker but could have been much bigger, with a fumble near the goal line and a couple of stuffs factors. But I don't think we're going to see a lot of Kapri Bibbs or anything.

Packers at Falcons: Some awesome quarterbacking in this game, as was to be expected. Two of the game's best right now leading their teams back and forth down the field. Aaron Rodgers didn't have all of his weapons, Matt Ryan really doesn't have that many (and his best one struggled, maybe dealing with an ankle injury). But both guys kept making throws and it was fun to watch. Unless you had Julio Jones coming up with a dud. ... The Packers backfield doesn't seem to have any value. They don't seem to have much interest in running the ball with any of their options. Leading rushers were Rodgers and a fullback.

Eagles at Cowboys: What better way to end the weekend than with another Overtime game? Show of hands, who thinks Tony Romo wins this one. Just doesn't have the mobility/quickness at this point. Dak Prescott (and the rest of the Cowboys) made a bunch of mistakes early on, but were clutch at the end. Good game, with Elliott finishing with solid numbers (had a 60ish-yard run wiped out by a penalty), Dez Bryant showing he's a difference-maker, Prescott making big throws. Kudos to the Eagles, though, who did everything but win. Limited role for Ryan Mathews; Darren Sproles the one they trust the most.

Monday, Monday: So in that Survivor Pool I probably talk too much about 10 of the 26 people left have the Vikings tonight. Sure Jay Cutler and company will have problems with Minnesota's defense, but a road divisional team on Monday night? Too risky for my blood. Definitely figures to be a lower-scoring one. I'll take the Vikings by a 23-16 score, but you never know. It being Halloween, I don't imagine this will be the most-watched game ever, but it will be on in the background. Hopefully lots of fans (announcers? probably not) in costumes for this one. Happy Halloween!
