The Giants can't catch a break. First they lost Saquon Barkley. They got him back, but they've lost Sterling Shepard, for the second (or third, if you count last week's on-again, off-again status) time this season. And now Evan Engram is going to miss some time.

Engram isn't practicing on Wednesday, in what was initially referred to innocently enough as a "sore foot." But now we hear he's in a walking boot with a mid-foot sprain, and is being called week to week. Safe to say Engram isn't playing in Week 10, and maybe not Week 11 or ? either.

The last time Engram missed a game was at New England in Week 6. Rhett Ellison started, seeing 7 targets. He caught only 3 for 30 yards, but that was a Patriots defense stoning everyone. This week the Giants are "at" the Jets, playing on their home field. If you're in a bind at tight end with six teams on byes and Engram sidelined, Ellison is a guy who must reasonably be considered.

Also not practicing today is Sterling Shepard (concussion), although that's in no way surprising. I have Shepard in several leagues and at this point I'd be less surprised if Shepard was placed on IR tomorrow than plays this week. Not saying that's what is going to happen, but I don't think the chances of being able to start him any time soon are promising.

But back to Ellison. Engram missed five games and part of a sixth a year ago; Ellison replaced him in all but one of those games. Here's how he fared.

Not setting the world afire, but I think Ellison merits consideration against a lousy Jets defense this week.
