Washington Football Team swaps kickers, again

The Washington Football Team moved on to its third kicker of the season on Tuesday by signing JOEY SLYE and releasing struggling kicker CHRIS BLEWITT. The move ends a troublesome two-weekMore stretch for Blewitt, who was signed to replace veteran kicker DUSTIN HOPKINS just last month. WFT releases kicker Hopkins

The Washington Football team announced on Wednesday that veteran kicker DUSTIN HOPKINS has been released. Hopkins has been Washington’s kicker since 2015, hitting on 84% of his field goals and 94.2%More of his extra points during his time with the team. Hopkins will be replaced by CHRIS BLEWITT, who was re-signed to the practice squad earlier this week after a workout with two other kickers. Blewitt was undrafted out of Pittsburgh in 2017. Less

Rough day at the office for Bears kickers

During Tuesday’s minicamp practice this week, all three Chicago Bears kickers missed a 42-yard field-goal attempt. On Wednesday, the Bears waived CHRIS BLEWITT to reduce the competition down to two kickers.More ELLIOTT FRY and EDDY PINEIRO remain, but if they continue to miss the 42-yarders it’s possible that the Bears will continue their search for a new starter. Bears’ kickers getting silent treatment

The Chicago Bears are using something their coaches refer to as the “Agusta silence” treatment in testing kickers CHRIS BLEWITT, ELLIOTT FRY, and EDDY PINEIRO. During OTA practices, the Bears areMore sending one kicker out to the middle of the field to attempt a field goal while the rest of the team watches in silence from the sideline. Coaches compare the silence to when golfers strike a ball at the Masters. Time will tell if the silent treatment improves the Bears’ kicking game. Less

Bears add another leg to kicking competition

The Chicago Bears signed kicker ELLIOTT FRY to a three-year contract late last week. Fry, 24, most recently kicked for the Orlando Apollos in the AAF. He also played four seasonsMore at South Carolina, where he connected on 66 of 88 field goal attempts. He was a perfect 14 of 14 with the Apollos. Bears sign another kicker

The Chicago Bears signed former University of Pittsburgh kicker CHRIS BLEWITT after he emerged from the pack at a group tryout held by the team. Blewitt is a free agent withoutMore NFL experience. He joins fellow kickers CODY PARKEY and the recently-signed REDFORD JONES, who also has no NFL experience.
