Factoid: Extra points

The NFL moved extra points back by 13 yards back in 2015, and I really like the change. Previously, PATs were almost meaningless; only a few would be missed all year. Now the success rate tends to hover around 94 percent, with key misses showing up from time to time.   more »

Factoid: Position on the rise

I notice that kickers are scoring more points than they have in the past. They’re more accurate, they have better range, and teams are getting them on the field more often.   more »

Ian Allan's fantasy football mailbag. In this edition: Is Fantasy Index trying to sit on both sides of the fence with Justin Tucker? How big of a concern is Minnesota's offense line? Are the odds stacked against rookie running backs? And is Melvin Gordon a bust waiting to happen? more »

Fantasy News: Dynasty kicker rankings

I’ve been including dynasty rankings in the product every Thursday. That’s a permanent fixture in the process now – audit and adjust those in the middle of each week. But they don’t include kickers, which are kind of different animal.   more »

Factoid: Kickers

I believe Stephen Gostkowski and Justin Tucker will be the first two kickers taken. Those are the top 2 on my board. And of those guys, I give Gostkowski a big edge.  more »

Factoid: Placekickers

With kickers, there’s regular scoring (using NFL points) and there are performance options – with bonuses for longer kickers and subtractions for misses. But I don’t see a lot of difference between the two.  more »

Factoid: Kickers

I’m surprised how much kickers continue to improve. Most of them are pretty automatic now, and even on the long-range kicks, they’re expected to make them.  more »

Who are the only two kickers who’ve gone 10 for 10 on field goals from 50-plus yards in a season? Both of these kickers are active (but one is now on a different roster). answer »

Ian Allan: Field goal heavy offenses

It’s too early to start slotting players and drawing any firm conclusions; let’s see who gets signed and drafted, and who’s starting at quarterback for some of these teams. But I am working my way through the 2016 numbers, collecting data and making some notes. And I see that three offenses were really prone to field goals last year.  more »

Ian Allan: Elite kickers

At the kicker position, is it a good enough strategy to go after somebody who scored a bunch of points in the previous year? Is the repeat rate high enough to merit going after a kicker before the others in your league? Or is it smarter to simply take whatever’s left in the final round or two?  more »

Trivia: February 20, 2017

Since extra points were moved back prior to the 2015 season, who are the only two kickers who haven't missed a PAT? (Both of these players have been their teams' kickers for all 32 of these games, hitting a combined 127 extra points.) answer »

Tucker perfect for Ravens

Baltimore kicker JUSTIN TUCKER was a perfect 4 of 4 on his field goal attempts against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Tucker hit from 52, 57, and 54 yards in theMore first half before adding a 36 yarder in the fourth quarter. Tucker has made 34 field goals in a row, including 27 this season, and has connected on all 15 conversion tries. His fantasy owners really like him. Less
