Detroit gives kicker Badgley the boot

The Detroit Lions released kicker MICHAEL BADGLEY on Thursday, leaving the team with fellow kickers RILEY PATTERSON and PARKER ROMO to battle for the starting gig. The Lions had signed BadgleyMore to a one-year deal in March, but then traded with the Jacksonville Jaguars to acquire Patterson in May. The Jacksonville Jaguars signed veteran kicker BRANDON MCMANUS on Thursday, just two days after Denver dropped him from the team. In a corresponding move, the Jaguars traded former kicker RILEY PATTERSONMore to the Detroit Lions. Lions acquire kicker Patterson in trade with Jaguars

The Detroit Lions have a three-man kicking competition on tap after acquiring kicker RILEY PATTERSON from the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday for a conditional 2026 seventh-round draft pick. Patterson made 13More of 14 field goals with the Lions in 2021 but lost a camp battle with AUSTIN SEIBERT for the kicking job last summer. After Seibert struggled early last season, the Lions replaced him with fellow kicker MICHAEL BADGLEY, who will now compete with Patterson.
