The track record of big, slow wideouts isn't particularly good in the NFL, but that didn't stop Kelvin Benjamin a year ago, and maybe it won't stop Devin Funchess, either. Carolina drafted Funchess in the second round, and just maybe he'll start right away.

The Charlotte Observer, for one, thinks Funchess was drafted to start and might even take away Jerricho Cotchery's roster spot.

That's kind of a bold prediction, given that rookie wideouts don't often make as quick an impact as Benjamin did. Most likely it will take Funchess a while to get up to speed (so to speak), assuming he pans out at all.

Regardless, interesting prediction by the newspaper. The team has virtually nothing else at the position, so for Cotchery to be on the roster bubble, Funchess would need to really impress.
