Washington quarterback ALEX SMITH was spotted at a Washington Wizards game wearing a brace-like contraption known as an “external fixator” to secure his broken leg. Smith’s recovery is expected to take up to a year, and the entire 2019 season.

Washington signs QB Johnson

Washington announced on Wednesday that the team has signed veteran quarterback JOSH JOHNSON as a backup to new starter MARK SANCHEZ. Johnson and Sanchez are the only healthy quarterbacks currently on Washington’s roster after previous starters ALEX SMITH and COLT MCCOY both suffered broken legs.

McCoy struggles as new starter

With ALEX SMITH out for the season with a broken leg, backup COLT MCCOY was promoted to the starting role for Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day game against the Dallas Cowboys. It was McCoy’s first start since 2014 and he promptly proceeded to throw 3 interceptions as the Washington offense struggled.

Alex Smith suffers broken leg

Washington quarterback ALEX SMITH suffered a broken tibia and fibula in his leg during Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. Smith will require immediate surgery and head coach Jay Gruden said after the game that his quarterback will miss the remainder of the season.

Veteran newbies lead Washington
