Jaguars QB Luton to start again, RB Thomson likely headed to injured reserve

Jacksonville quarterback JAKE LUTON will start again when the Jaguars play the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Head coach Doug Marrone said that GARDNER MINSHEW, who has been out with aMore thumb injury, will begin throwing again this week. Undrafted running back to start for Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars appear to be heading into the season opener against the Indianapolis Colts with undrafted rookie JAMES ROBINSON as the starting running back. Robinson was a star at IllinoisMore State, but time will tell if he can match that status in the NFL. Robinson is followed on the Jaguars depth chart by second-year undrafted running back DEVINE OZIGBO and veteran third-down specialist CHRIS THOMPSON. Less

Factoid: Chris Thompson

Jacksonville’s dumping Leonard Fournette, and that’s got me very interested in Chris Thompson as a later-round pick. He should catch a ton of balls.  more »

Fantasy News: Chris Thompson

I have some interest in Chris Thompson. Not as a headliner, but if we’re playing in a PPR format, he makes sense with a late-round pick as a depth option at running back.   more »

Jaguars sign RB Thompson to one-year deal

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed running back CHRIS THOMPSON to a one-year contract late last week. Until now, Thompson played his entire career for Washington. He is expected to complement running backMore LEONARD FOURNETTE as a receiving threat out of the backfield this season. Thompson is also known as an exceptional pass blocker, although you don’t get any fantasy points for that. Less

Washington RB Thompson dealing with turf toe injury

Washington running back CHRIS THOMPSON reportedly suffered a turf toe injury in Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins. Thompson did not return to the game after the injury, and his immediateMore status is in question. Washington worked out free agent running back JOSH FERGUSON on Tuesday, but he would not likely be of much use to fantasy owners. Less

Ian Allan: 3rd-down backs

In a previous post, I was kicking around the issue of whether third-down backs can actually be better in tougher situations. If a team falls behind or can’t get its running game going, it reasonably will pass more, setting up these backs to finish with better numbers. I want to come back at this issue, but in a different way.  more »

Factoid: Third-down backs

When a pass-catching running back is in a PPR league, I tend to get more excited when the team is in a tougher situation. If a team can’t run the ball or falls way behind, it tends to start working in more dumpoff passes, and the fantasy points can pile up.   more »

Peterson has lofty rushing goal for 2019

Washington running back ADRIAN PETERSON has set a goal of 2,000 yards for the upcoming 2019 season. At age 34, such a season would be quite the accomplishment. Peterson topped 1,000More yards last season while leading the team in carries with 251. A return to health of fellow running backs DERRIUS GUICE and CHRIS THOMPSON could cut into Peterson’s carries this season, but his goal remains high. Less

Washington drafts RB Love, adds to crowded backfield corps

Washington raised eyebrows when the team drafted running back BRYCE LOVE in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. With ADRIAN PETERSON, CHRIS THOMPSON, DERRIUS GUICE, and SAMAJE PERINE allMore on the roster, it would seem like there is little room left for the rookie running back. Although Guice is said to be on track in his recovery from an ACL injury, the selection of Love was a surprise to many. Less

Peterson remains in Washington

Washington running back ADRIAN PETERSON signed a two-year deal with the team on Wednesday, meaning the soon-to-be 34-year-old rusher will be back in action in 2019 and possibly beyond. DERRIUS GUICEMore should return this year after an ACL injury last preseason, but Peterson’s presence ensures that the team will not need to rush him back. Third-down back CHRIS THOMPSON will also have a role in the backfield. Less

Factoid: Runners catching passes

More running backs are getting more involved in passing games this year. Not just grabbing a few dumpoff balls – these guys are featured weapons. You send the wide receivers downfield, then let a fast, quick receiver-like running back work against a linebacker underneath. That can be tough to stop.  more »

Washington TE Reed, RB Thompson in “great shape”

Washington tight end JORDAN REED and running back CHRIS THOMPSON are both good to go for Sunday’s season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. Reed is expected to play “quite a bit”More while Thompson is sure to get his share of action as well. Neither player is on the team’s Week 1 injury report. Less
